Being a Side Chick: A Promotion to Main Chick Is Rare
I find the whole concept of side chicks, mistresses, and jump-offs, truly fascinating. Sometimes the choice of word that is applied, depends on class and even race, however, the main concept is the same.
A side piece is a woman who has a clandestine relationship with a man who is already involved with another woman. He could be married or have a girlfriend, but the relationship that he has with his side piece is extracurricular.
Men can also be sidepieces, but their particular plight is not the focus here.
In the past, there was a lot of shame surrounding the side chick or mistress, but lately, there are too many women who are all too happy to be the side chick and even use it to validate themselves or view it as a sign that they are somehow better than the main woman in the man’s life.
I wrote about my own affair here, where I was both wife and side piece at the same time. It was never my desire to be anything more, probably because of the scenario. It was my first and last time in that position.
The reality is that all side chicks are not created equal. Some of them are quite satisfied with their role.
