Navigating the aftermath of a breakup can be a challenging and an emotionally turbulent experience. Amidst the whirlwind of emotions and conflicting thoughts, one common dilemma often arises: should I block my ex? Whether you’re grappling with lingering feelings, seeking closure, or aiming to move forward, the real question to ask yourself is: will blocking your ex help you to move on?

When to block an ex:

Blocking can be a complex decision that depends on various factors, including the nature of the relationship, individual circumstances, and personal boundaries. While there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer, here are some circumstances in which blocking an ex might be considered appropriate:

  1. To Prevent Toxic Interactions — If you are being harassed, then blocking is a no-brainer. To open yourself up to receiving a multitude of messages and calls on any given day would be opening yourself up to compromised mental health and there is no reason to repeatedly re-traumatize yourself or open yourself up to emotional manipulation or abuse.
